I love antiheroes. I think Bojack would fall under that umbrella term. The show that I come back to time and time again is Naruto. It holds a special place in my heart because it was the first anime I completed (back in high school), but every time I rewatch an episode, I'm stuck by how intricate the plot is. There are broken heroes, antiheroes, but no one truly operating out of sheer good will or evil.
I think that animation, by transcending the limitations of human appearance and behavior, somehow feels more human? It invites us to kinda let loose and think deeper about the motivations behind why certain characters act the way they do. We get to ditch our preconceptions of reality (which work overdrive day-to-day anyways) and sink into a new perspective.
wow, i loved this so much! i rarely rewatch shows, but this inspired my to rewatch bojack as i've only seen it through once but thoroughly enjoyed it 🥂
